With over 17 years of experience in residential and commercial interior design, Kim has quietly made her mark on the Calgary design scene. Specializing in space planning and solving tricky layouts to better suit her clients lifestyle, Kim has grown her business through referrals from happy clients who have valued her approachable, kind direction and detail driven eye for timeless design.

She’s collaborated with some of Calgary’s leading builders, including Boxfort and Anthem, and has had the privilege of working alongside dozens of the city’s top renovation contractors.

We love what we do. It is a passion to help create beautiful and functional spaces for our clients to live their best lives. Our homes and places of work are the backdrop to our lives and help shape who we are and how we live. Carrara has a customized approach to each project. Allowing us to cater the design services to best suit the client’s needs. Some client need more assistance with floor plans, structural changes and overseeing major projects to get them right. Others need only guidance through some decision making as diy weekend warriors.

Kim Van De Walle has a Bachelors of Applied Interior Design, B.A.I.D. and over 17 years of experience working with clients for small, medium and large renovations and new construction. Kim has also guided client in designing light commercial spaces from office interiors, dr. clinics as well as the club house for the AAFS Autism and Aspergers Friendship Society.

Transparency is key to our success. After the initial meeting to review the space or project and discuss the needs of the client, we provide a detailed proposal outlining our services and costs. No guess work needed.

Wanting to do some renovations but not knowing where to start my friend referred me to Kimberly. From the moment she walked into my house with her big welcoming smile I knew we were going to get along!

Within a couple of hours she seemed to clearly see my vision where I knew what I wanted done and in other rooms where I had no idea what to do she had a plan! She came up with a new kitchen and master bath plan that I loved, help me work through picking a contractor that was able to work within my budget, walked me through all the design choices and came to my aid whenever the contractor needed a quick decision.

When the reno was completed she was there to help me find new furniture pieces and accessories, make old ones work better, hang pictures and arrange book cases.

During the process Kimberly never forced her opinion on me although she would sometimes nudge me out of my comfort zone and I was always happy with the choice in the end. If she brought me samples that I was still not pleased with she never took offense and worked hard to find another option I was happy with!

The end product was a home I now love, on budget and on time with no major Issues! I have since referred her to many of my friends from major renos to help with blinds. They have all been very pleased with Kimberly and have referred her on to their friends.

Our experience with Kim completely updated our perceptions of what a designer is responsible in achieving. It wasn’t just about picking out hardware and colours…which she is also amazing at, it was about the full details of doing a complete gut and restructure of our 1962 bungalow. She came up with different plans based on our needs and desires for our renovation and she easily adapted to our changes. Kim was able to visualize a home that we would never have been able to figure out on our own. She has access to architectural designers who will create detailed plans which are easily submitted to the city.

Everything that she suggested to us has been a perfect fit with our home and there were designs aspects that we would never have considered or thought of on our own. Her ideas were exactly what we needed without us even having had any clue that they could exist.

Kim has designed our whole house, including the basement, our garage and our back yard. She always provides options and suggestions so that we can figure out what works best for us.

Not only would I highly recommend Kim in the future, I have recommended her to friends and colleagues and they have been as impressed with her abilities and her professionalism as we have been.

We can honestly say that the money that we spent on Carrara Designs was the best investment in our renovation.

Kim was wonderful to work with. We found a home in our “forever” neighborhood, but the floorplan and layout were very challenging and did not meet our needs. We gave Kim the difficult task of providing an updated layout on two floors to create a more functional and usable space, as well as take into consideration existing plumbing, electrical, ventilation, and structural requirements. She provided us with floor plan options based on varying degrees of renovation, as well as provided recommendations on design aspects that would provide large impact based on the space. She considered our specific needs and budget constraints and was able to provide us with a layout and design elements that turned the house into our dream home. Kim has a true talent and amazing eye that can elevate any space.
